    Sterling Backus is a physics professor at Colorado State University. His son said he liked Lamborghini Aventador when playing the video game Forza Horizon 3. But because they didn't have much money to buy the expensive sports car, they decided to make Aventador with a 3D printer.


    Three-dimensional printing (3DP) is one of rapid prototyping technology. It is a technology based on digital model files, using bindable materials such as powder metal or plastic to construct objects by printing layer by layer. Often used in die manufacturing, industrial design and other fields for manufacturing models, and gradually used in the direct manufacturing of some products, there are already parts printed using this technology.     Fortunately, Backus has some experience with 3D printing. "About seven years ago, I started using 3D printing in my work. I like to build things, and I think cars are mobile art," he said.


    Backus and his son have been working on the project for a year and four months, and are trying to spend an hour a night building cars. They print out parts of the car with CR-10S and CR-105S, which are three-dimensional printers.

    Because of its high dimensional stability, he applied PLA to body panels. At the same time, ASA, ABS and PETG are used for headlamps and taillights, and Backus uses carbon fiber nylon for interior components requiring high strength. From the appearance, the simulation effect is almost 1:1.

    "Initially, we planned to build the car with steel, but since 3D printing technology has made great progress, we eventually chose 3D printing technology," Bucks said.
